Data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.Overall, respondents indicated that having a visual impairment impacted their experiences in sex education. In addition, children who are blind can have difficulty in emulating behavior patterns exhibited by adults or sighted peers.Since these skills and ways of interacting are often not explicitly taught to children who are blind, blind children may act in ways deemed inappropriate by societal standards. When a female counselor at Pendleton Correctional Facility complained that someone was using her desk at night, an internal investigation quickly uncovered the truth.Prison employees working the night shift were having sex on the woman's desk. But when the counselor asked the prison's internal affairs investigator what should be done about the discovery, she was in for yet another surprise."I suggest," the investigator told the counselor, "you wash off your desk every day."The exchange is among details in a federal lawsuit filed by the counselor, who, ironically, was fired in 2010 for having sex with a Department of Correction employee on his desk at the prison about 60 miles east of Indianapolis.
Such an education that is informed by and responsive to such factors remains, however, uncommon for most students and even more so for students with visual impairments.
Court records said the pair would have sex on lunch breaks at her home near the prison and Ditmer told an internal affairs investigator he also had sex with Orton-Bell in his office at the prison.
Orton-Bell and Ditmer were both fired for "conduct that would interfere with the staff member's ability or fitness to effectively perform required duties," the appeals court order said.
C., said sexual harassment and gender discrimination "remains pretty widespread in the workforce.""For a very long time, the courts and EEOC have been clear about what steps should be taken, yet you still see workplaces that clearly ignore that," she said.
"It is not rocket science to know you should not allow sexual harassment to go unchecked.
